Pavilion

Project information

The design for this pavilion is influenced by rock outcroppings in the nearby foothills. The fins are a untreated steel that take on a rusted patina over time, resembling the red and orange flatirons on display across the road. The small glass enclosure is the “crystal” tucked into the “rocks” that offers a meditative respite from the elements and an opportunity to take in the view of the surrounding park. The inspiration for adding the enclosure came from reading at the time about Wabi-Sabi tea houses and appreciating their reverence of simplicity and closeness to nature.
